ABSTRACT

Nowadays, vibrato, which is an important technique in terms of teaching and performing, had a difficult and complicated process throghout the history. In violin performance and training, vibrato, whose use has increasingly become important and clear, has discussed, in this research, by using literature review in terms of history, development of pedagogy, performance, musical notation and physical science. The result of this research shows that in 16th, 17th,18th centuries, vibrato was not preferable technique, In the 19th century, vibrato was both affected by the previous centuries and played a role as a bridge to the 20th century. Towards the end of the 20th century, use of vibrato has increased radically, however approaching the 21th century, it has not been prefered by certain groups.
